08 Cabernet Sauvignon, Atlas Peak Mountain
We are pleased to offer our inaugural vintage of Au Sommet 2008 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. When we purchased this 7-acre vineyard, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon (clones 7 and 337) and Petit Verdot (clone 400), atop Napa Valley’s Atlas Peak, we knew that great fruit would come from its rich volcanic soils. We (Heidi Barrett, Jim Barbour and John Schwartz) have resolved as a team to produce a world class wine with no expense spared.
The 2008 offering is a blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot exuding rich, velvety textures of brambleberry fruit and underlying aromas of cassis, cedar and crushed rocks. The grapes benefited from the longer hang time that makes mountain fruit so ripe and concentrated. With low yields of 1.5 tons per acre, our ’08 fruit was picked by blocks on September 29 (brix 24.5) and October 23 (brix 25.8).
