Domaine Bernard Baudry
Born into a family of winemakers, and after studying oenology in Beaune, Bernard Baudry started out as a viticultural advisor in a laboratory in Tours, France where he worked alongside Jacques Puisais for five years. He then decided to set up on his own winery on a small 2 hectares estate.
Since 1982 Bernard has extended the domaine to its present area of 30 hectares, a size that allows him to vinify each parcel of vines separetely. Each cuvée thus corresponds to a distinct terroir.
Matthieu, Bernard's son, studied in Mâcon and in Bordeaux. After traveling to Tasmania and then to California, he returned to the family estate in 2000. He now works side-by-side with his father on the production of all wines.
The domaine has recently acquired vines planted on the hills of Chinon, in “Le Clos Guillot”, a terroir that is already giving the family intense satisfaction as they watch the evolution of its wine. There is also a small parcel planted in "franc de pied" (on it's own rootstock) from which they make special cuvee as well.
