Guayquil
The 100-year tradition of one of the most important wine families in Argentina meets modern winemaking technology at Bodegas y Viñedos Huarpe. The origins of this winery predate its establishment, and it is the continuation of the work of many generations in one of the world’s ideal wine-producing regions, Mendoza.
Named for the peaceful, hardworking natives that inhabited the Cuyo territory before the arrival of Europeans and founded in 2002, it is a young winery that draws upon the vast experience of its founders, three fourth-generation descendants of the Piedmont, Italy native Pasquale Toso (of Toso sparkling wine fame).
In charge of winemaking is Italian and German-trained winemaker José Hernandez Toso, chief winemaker of Luigi Bosca, while Alejandro Toso, former agricultural engineer of Pasquale Toso, manages the vineyard. José Hernandez Toso was named 2005 Winemaker of the Year by a voting group made up of other Argentine winemakers.
