NV Millenaire Brut
This is now the “superior” N.V.; half-half ’05-’06 and a year longer on the lees, though
interestingly, with 8g dosage (as opposed to 6 for the “lesser” wine), which I find
encouraging, as it shows they’re basing dosage on the actual base wine and not just acting
by rote as so many others do – “the better wine must be drier because it is better.”
Disgorged 2/28/10; it smells like barely overdone puff-pastry you grabbed from the
oven in the nick of time; the palate is weighty, it doesn’t use its “inside-voice,” but the
finish is capacious and strong. The next disgorgement, which has already happened as
I write, will be sold in late Summer and is potentially very fine, even stronger and more
toasted.

Tasting Notes
Waxy citrus and pit fruit aromas are complemented by notes of white flowers and smoky minerals. Becomes more pungent with air, offering concentrated pear and nectarine flavors. The finish repeats the waxy note and lingers with very good grip, lift and smoky persistence. - Tanzer (Dec 2009)
