Las Perdices

This is a family winery in the true sense of the word. Juan Muñoz Lopez and his family immigrated to Argentina in 1952 from his hometown of Andalucía, Spain, and began cultivating vines in the rich lands of Mendoza. He was immediately struck by the large number of partridges roaming these lands, hence the name “Las Perdices”. These vineyards are located in the foothills of the Andes Mountains at 3,379 feet above sea level in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo and the first DOC zone in Argentina.

Juan trained his two sons very well, and today they manage the vineyards and have begun producing wines under their own label. Viña Las Perdices currently consists of more than 173 acres of vineyards, some of which are more than 30 years old. The alluvial, loamy, limey soil of medium depth, on top of a subsurface of stones, combined with the Andes foothills’ climatic conditions (warm days and cool nights) interact to produce exquisite fruit. The harvest is done manually in 37-pound boxes that maintains the integrity and quality of the grapes, and yields are very low.

The Cabernet Sauvignon is aged for 6 months in French and American oak, while the Reserva spends 18 months in new French and American oak barrels. The Muñoz Lopez family loyally adheres to the philosophy of combining respect for the land with technical know-how and obsessive attention to quality to create truly high-quality wines.
