94 Points, Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, 2009

"The 2007 Finca Remota came from a 10-acre parcel of 50-year-old vines in Altamira. It received the 150% new oak treatment with 50% of the wine racked into a set of new barrels for 6 months after a 12 month stay in the first set of new barrels. Purple-colored, it offers up an enticing bouquet of pain grille, pencil led, incense, truffle, black cherry, and black raspberry. Sweet, pure, and elegant on the palate, it has superb concentration and focus, impeccable balance, and a 45-second finish. It will offer a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2022."

93 Points, WIne Spectator, 2009

"Ripe and dense, with a muscular core of crushed plum, blackberry and fig fruit flavors laced with incense, coffee and mesquite notes. The long, graphite-driven finish has ample drive to offset its weight. Very suave. Drink now through 2011."

92 Points, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, 2010

"Bright ruby. Black raspberry liqueur, licorice and sexy spicy oak aromas are lifted by a violet topnote. Dense, lush and penetrating, with a deep sweetness and lovely inner-mouth perfume to the black raspberry and spice flavors. Impressively large-scaled yet suave and stylish owing to its superb balance. Finishes with lovely aromatic persistence and lift."

Tasting Notes

Dark as night, a basket of enticing floral aromas (especially violets), Malbec’s intense red and black fruit flavors, and superbly integrated French oak notes. Serve with rich foods like steak with a port reduction, duck with an intense cherry sauce, or a slowly-braised veal shank.
