Sur De Los Andes
Bodega Sur was recently created by Guillermo Banfi and will market its wines under the brand Sur de los Andes. The wine is produced in a recently refurbished winery built in 1920, incorporating state-of-the-art equipment for the production of high quality wines. It has a capacity of one million liters divided in small cement/epoxy tanks ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 liters.
The grapes are carefully selected from a handful of fincas in the prime zones of Mendoza -- in particular, Vistalba, Agrelo, and Lulunta in Luján de Cuyo and San Carlos in the Valle de Uco. All these vineyards are between 20 and 80 years old and carefully managed to yield 4,000 to 9,000 kilos per hectare (4,400 to 8,800 pounds per acre).
All winemaking is under the supervision of Pablo Durigutti. Pablo gained wide experience while working with the Rutini winery and with his older brother Hector Durigutti at Cinco Tierras. Hector is one of Argentina’s most respected winemakers and is considered to be in the top echelon of Malbec experts.
